Date of Release:
November 29, 2022

Make plans to spend your weekend in downtown Paducah enjoying a variety of activities.

Candy Cane Hunt  The Parks & Recreation Department’s award-winning Candy Cane Hunt sponsored by Banterra Bank will be Saturday, December 3, on the National Quilt Museum’s lawn located at 215 Jefferson Street. Registration begins at 11:45 a.m. for this free event where children ages 10 and under race to find candy canes.

The children will be divided into four age groups and will race at different times to collect more than 5000 candy canes. The National Quilt Museum will be offering free admission following the event. The hunts will be at 12:30 p.m. for children 3 and under; 12:50 p.m. for children 4 and 5 years of age, 1:10 p.m. for children 6 and 7 years of age, and 1:30 p.m. for children 8 to 10 years old.

Kids can also take part in the Yeiser Art Center Coloring Contest anytime from noon until 2 p.m. Yeiser will announce the winners next week with prizes for the winning entries.

For the safety of the participants, 2nd Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Jefferson Street and Monroe Street. Parking is available in the Farmers' Market parking lot by using the entrance off Monroe Street.

In 2019, the Kentucky Recreation & Park Society named the Candy Cane Hunt as the Class IV Program of the Year.

Christmas Parade  The annual City of Paducah Christmas Parade is this Saturday, December 3 at 5 p.m. in historic downtown Paducah. The theme is Christmas in Candyland with music and lights on each of the parade's approximately 100 entries. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the end of the parade riding in a Paducah fire truck.

This year, the City of Paducah is honoring the Paducah Ambassadors as the parade's Grand Marshal. Ambassadors will be riding on a float and in a PATS trolley at the beginning of the parade. Paducah is proud to honor these volunteers who give their time, energy, and knowledge in welcoming visitors and greeting guests. This volunteer organization has been in existence since 1988 when former Paducah Mayor Gerry Montgomery asked for volunteers to help with a convention.

The parade begins at 14th and Broadway and proceeds down Broadway before turning left on Water Street, then left on Jefferson Street, and right on 2nd Street before dispersing at the intersection of Monroe & 2nd Street.

Parade entries will marshal on Broadway between 13th and Fountain Avenue, on Fountain Avenue between Broadway and Monroe, and on Jefferson between 13th and Fountain Avenue. Streets will be closed in the staging area by 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Parks & Recreation Department also asks the public to refrain from parking in the parade preparation area from 2 to 6 p.m. to help limit the congestion of vehicles and floats.
