Invitation to Serve on Housing Authority of Paducah Board

Date of Release:
July 24, 2025

Paducah Mayor George Bray is inviting interested citizens to apply to serve on the Housing Authority of Paducah board which is also called the Municipal Housing Commission. This five-member board is the governing body of the Housing Authority of Paducah, an organization that serves low-to moderate-income families through subsidized rental units.

“For nearly 90 years, the Housing Authority of Paducah has administered public housing programs and partnered with local agencies to provide additional support services,” said Mayor George Bray. “This is a well-established organization that takes a dedicated staff and board. The motto of the Paducah Housing Authority is “Move in, Move up, Move ahead,” and the board is charged with ensuring that the motto is fulfilled.”

The board members of the Municipal Housing Commission play a vital role in setting the strategic direction for the Housing Authority, approving policies, overseeing budgets, ensuring U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) compliance, and supporting efforts to expand housing opportunities and community partnerships. The overall status, development, and improvement of the Housing Authority are important to all communities the size of Paducah and are critical to the future of many of Paducah’s strategies around low- and middle-income housing.

Mayor Bray added, “We are looking for someone who has a diverse array of skillsets to fill the one opening on the board. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who is business-minded with experience in the housing and financial sectors and who has a passion for impacting Paducah’s housing market. Having a diverse board of directors who understand the needs of the community and the challenges of providing public housing is more important than ever.”

At this time, the Municipal Housing Commission has one board member opening. Paducah residents who are at least 25 years of age and have lived in the city for at least one year are invited to serve. With the exception of the Mayor’s designee, City Commissioner Raynarldo Henderson, no more than two appointees may be affiliated with the same political party. For this opening, the prospective board member must be registered as Republican. Each member is appointed for a term of four years. The Municipal Housing Commission meets on the third Thursday of every month.

Those interested in serving should complete the application packet by Friday, August 8. If you have a question, reach out by email to Assistant City Clerk Claudia Meeks or call 270-444-8507. An application packet can be found at Boards and Commissions packet. Mayor Bray will discuss this opportunity with anyone interested.

Currently, the Housing Authority administers 855 units and oversees approximately 621 Housing Choice Vouchers, providing affordable housing to approximately 1500 residents. The Housing Authority includes seven public housing communities (Anderson Court, Blackburn, Dolly McNutt, Elmwood Court, Ella Munal, H.C. Mathis, and Pierce Lackey) and 36 scattered site units across the city.

The Municipal Housing Commission is established by KRS 80.020 through 80.260 and Paducah Code of Ordinances Section 2-401 and 2-402. The Housing Authority of Paducah was established July 18, 1938, in accordance with the U.S. Housing Act of 1937. The Housing Authority is primarily funded by HUD.
