DWA Recreation, working for the Paducah Parks & Recreation Department, will begin a new playground installation project today. The project includes the installation of new playground equipment and rubber surfacing at Langstaff Park located at 1312 Langstaff Avenue. In preparation for the new playground, last month City crews removed the old slide and swings and prepared the base for this much larger playground.
Parks & Recreation Department Director Amie Clark said, “Langstaff Park is a small neighborhood park on the northside of town with one of the oldest play spaces in the community. We are excited to have this opportunity to improve the space and provide an updated playground that better serves the neighborhood. The new playground will include a play structure with slides, climbers, a transfer platform, and an interactive panel, as well as accessible swings.”
In addition to the new equipment, there will be an attractive pour-in-place playground surface. The rubber surface is durable, soft, and safe. A portion of this project is funded by a $22,000 Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection Crumb Rubber Grant.
The project is expected to take one week, weather permitting, to complete.
Langstaff Park, a little more than a half-acre in size, also includes a picnic shelter and a marker that honors Sara Campbell (1890-1965). Campbell designed and presented an official flag for the City of Paducah in 1961. Campbell’s husband, John Pearce Campbell IV, deeded the land to the City in 1973 in honor of his wife.
