The Paducah Fire Department reminds the public about Chapter 46, Article IV of Paducah’s Code of Ordinances regarding fireworks. In Paducah, the sale of fireworks that leave the ground, explode, or have a report is allowed; however, they are not allowed to be discharged within the city limits due to the density of homes and other structures. The City of Paducah supervised public display that will be held at 9:15 p.m. on July 4 at Paxton Park is authorized.
Under State law, those under the age of 18 are not allowed to use fireworks meeting the definition of aerial devices or audible ground devices, and those fireworks are not to be used within 200 feet of any structure, motor vehicle, or other person. Ground and handheld sparkling devices are permitted in Paducah.
Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention Greg Cherry says, “With the July 4th holiday approaching, we want to remind the public that fireworks are not allowed to be discharged within the city limits for safety reasons due to the density of homes and structures in Paducah. Those caught discharging fireworks could receive a citation. Furthermore, it is illegal for minors to be in possession of fireworks.”
“Even though ground and handheld sparkling devices are permitted in Paducah, please use caution and have adult supervision,” adds Cherry. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), sparklers burn at approximately 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission 2018 Fireworks Annual Report states that more than 19,500 fires are started each year by fireworks.
