On Wednesday, November 29, members of the City of Paducah Engineering Department in cooperation with the Public Works Department will be training supervisory staff from Jim Smith Contracting on floodgate installation procedures. This training will be from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The training exercise will involve the installation and removal of the floodgate located at Harrison Street in downtown Paducah. During the training, North 3rd Street will be closed between North Loop Road (also known as North 3rd Street Loop) and Executive Boulevard. Also, Harrison Street will be closed from the floodwall to North Loop Road.
Training Jim Smith Contracting crews on floodgate installation procedures will benefit the City in the event of an emergency response to flooding. Jim Smith Contracting has assisted during previous high-water events on the Ohio River.
The last time the City of Paducah installed the floodgates due to flooding was in 2019. The City of Paducah installs the floodgates when the river forecast is 49 feet and rising.
